A Nationwide Tour
EAA’s Countdown to Kitty Hawk Touring Pavilion is an impressive
interactive exhibit visiting U.S. cities and events throughout 2003 and into 2004.
The exposition celebrates the invention of first flight and the ensuing possibilities that
wondrous achievement launched.
The touring pavilion showcases EAA’s accurately reproduced 1903 Wright Flyer, while documents on display are drawn entirely from the Library of Congress
collections. This story is further brought to life through a theatrical re-enactment with actors portraying
1903 Kitty Hawk resident, Bill Tate and fictional flying machine inventor,
Travis Fowler, to give visitors spirited insight into the remarkable discovery
of flight.
Events began in 2000,
culminating with the 2003 National Celebration on December 17, 2003.

Youth Opportunities
Long before they stunned the world with powered
flight, Orville and Wilbur were curious boys, tinkering with ideas and revealing
mechanical genius at early ages. The desire to cultivate curiosity, discovery
and technology skills in America’s youth is part of EAA’s Countdown to Kitty
Hawk.
The Young Eagles area provides information about EAA’s Young Eagles program, an ongoing effort to
introduce young people to their first flight experience. Here, visitors will
also find Wild Blue Wonders, a science-math-technology aviation program for
teachers and students.
EAA's Young Eagles Program
EAA's
Young Eagles Program, with support from Jaguar Cars, introduces young people to the world of aviation through the experience of safe
and enjoyable flight. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of first flight,
EAA’s volunteer membership will introduce 1 million young persons to their
first flights by December 17, 2003. The one-millionth youngster will accompany
aviation pioneer and Young Eagles’ national spokesperson, General Chuck Yeager
in a December 17 flight at Kitty Hawk. Learn More
EAA's Wild Blue Wonders Program
Wild Blue Wonders, presented by Ford Motor Company, is EAA’s Science Math-Technology project that brings the
power of aviation into middle-school classrooms. The program clearly reflects
the Wright Brothers’ values of teamwork and critical thinking. Learn

EAA's "50 Flags to Kitty Hawk" Program
EAA's "50 Flags to Kitty Hawk" program
will select one EAA-member pilot from each of the 50 states to fly their
respective state flag to the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kitty Hawk,
N.C., during calendar year 2003. Each pilot will also carry a proclamation from
that state's governor declaring the day of their flight "50 Flags to Kitty
Hawk Day" for their respective state. Learn
