Wright Flyer Reproduction Construction

Sketchy notes. Obsolete materials. 100 years of time passage.
Imagine the challenges of reproducing the 1903 Wright Flyer
Now imagine seeing its completion.

EAA’s 1903 Wright Flyer Reproduction is the world’s only historically accurate reproduction of the 1903 airplane, and is the centerpiece in EAA’s Countdown to Kitty Hawk celebration. All recreated details are faithful to the original design, without changes or modern modifications—a daunting task as many of the century-old tools, materials and processes no longer exist. The Wrights left an obscure trail to follow, carefully guarding their findings and working in secrecy. As a result, little is available in the way of blueprints, designs or instructions.

The formidable task of getting inside the minds of Wilbur and Orville fell to The Wright Experience of Virginia, who tackled the challenge with awe-inspiring results. The two-year project represents thousands of research and man hours, and is an exceptional achievement in understanding the path of invention. Ford Motor Company contributed technological expertise to help ensure the authenticity of the reproduction.

Precise, methodic and careful craftsmanship has resulted in, not a modified replica, but an exact reproduction of the 1903 Wright Flyer.
