Warner Delivers EAA Flag to Kitty Hawk
The 50 Flags program grew out of the "Flight Across America" program last year, where volunteer pilots (Warner and Marshall included) from each state flew their state flags to New York City on 9/11 to show unity and support for general aviation and to honor the victims and heroes of 9/11/01. "We decided to deliver the EAA flag on the anniversary of 9/11 to in part symbolize the freedom of flight that we all enjoy and also to represent not only our state and EAA, but the entire EAA membership," Bob said. Coincidentally, EAA members Dave and Joyce Mercer, California, were also at the Wright memorial on Thursday. Dave, EAA 379378, is Volunteer Coordinator Chairman for EAA's Camp Scholler during AirVenture Oshkosh. The Mercers helped present the flag to the National Park Service rangers, where it flew at the memorial throughout the day on September 11. "This reinforces what a great opportunity it is to celebrate the centennial of flight," Warner added. "Our entire membership is represented by the individual 50 Flags pilots, each of whom has a unique story to tell." During his visit, Warner gave NPS historian
Milagros Flores a ride in the RV, her first ever in a small aircraft.
Flores serves as liaison between EAA and the NPS for publicity of 50 Flags
flights.
