Countdown to Kitty Hawk at NBAA Convention - Orlando, FL

The Orange County Convention Center was a busy place during this year’s NBAA conference. The NBAA presence was displayed proudly on the front lawn of the Orange County Convention Center for the 2003 conference. Colorful banners announced the NBAA convention’s theme, “100 Years of Flight”.
There were more than 25,000 registered participants in the 2003 NBAA convention and 1,000 exhibitors. EAA’s Countdown to Kitty Hawk exhibit was made possible by Eclipse Aviation. EAA’s reproduction Wright Flyer was the centerpiece of the convention, being the first thing convention participants saw when they entered the hall.

Just as at other tour stops, Microsoft’s Wright Flyer simulator cradles were a big hit among the crowd of NBAA.

People who wanted to know more about how the engine and plane were built stopped by to watch a video of Steve Hay, one of the manufacturers of the reproduction Flyer engine. Convention participants enjoyed some leisure time in EAA’s Countdown to Kitty Hawk exhibit while they tried out Microsoft’s Flight Simulator 2004. The stage in EAA’s Countdown to Kitty Hawk exhibit hosted presentations by such notables as Lane Wallace, west coast editor for Flying magazine, and Amanda Wright Lane, great grand-niece of Orville and Wilbur Wright.
Jerry Leonard, of The Wright Experience, the company contracted to build EAA’s reproduction Flyer, talks to a convention participant about the intricacies and details of the plane.
